PROGRESSION - Andrew May
The work is a repurposed timber monument, a memorial and a celebration of the resourcefulness of the Kangaroo Island community and its maritime history.
It honours the residents who have made the isolation of the Island what it is today – from their ancestors and families building the homes and infrastructure, to their descendants who maintain the Island’s way of life, and the new arrivals who wish to contribute to the uniqueness of finding a home on Kangaroo Island.
Andrew is an award winning Australian Artist whose works are held in collections in Australia and around the world. As an artist who practises across the fields of Photography, Painting, Sculpture and Works on Paper, he often shifts between mediums - what begins as a drawing may end with the birth of a sculptural work. His work documents society, its relationship to existence, and its quest to reap its rewards before the last curtain call.
