Glossy Black depicts the beautiful tail feather of a female Glossy Black cockatoo, a beloved endemic Kangaroo Island species, and is a commemoration to the life of Bryon Buick, a much loved local artist and conservationist.

Bryon was committed to the preservation of this rare and endangered species. Through the sale of his artworks he contributed to the initiation of the Glossy Black recovery program, which has gone on to be one of Australia’s most successful conservation models, lifting the isolated population from a low of 158 birds in 1995 to over 440 individuals.

Dave Clarke is an accomplished Sculptor with commissioned works and exhibitions from London to Kangaroo Island and was a finalist in the esteemed Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize on 5 different occasions.
